Exuberant views and surprisingly well structured. The lodge is located in a high hill and disclosure an incredible landscape. The room was spacious, the common areas have cozy fireplaces. The meals come in generous amounts. Some can be shared.

The first thing one notices when arriving at the African Array Backpacker Lodge is the amazing view from the outside deck. The sun was setting over the horizon, the Piesangrivier reservoirin the foreground, with rugged steep hills showing exposed rock and wild greeneryteasing thewalking trails. Far down below, several very large estates suggest interesting stories to be heard.African Array is big, bright, colorful, and lively, with a big surfing theme throughout. The common room is white, light, and airy, with a vaulted ribbed ceiling, bench seating along a wall, with nooks and crannies and sofas to conquer. Our room was very comfortable, unremarkable, undistracting from the splendor outside.Appealing as the indoors are, the outdoors continue to best them: sitting on the deck, in the comfortable chairs, piled high with warm wool blankets (and the two resident dogs), near the crackling fire, makes the experience. Bats fly crazy circles over the water, feasting on bugs; the sounds of crickets in the background. As the last bits of sun fade away the stars become visible, the sky rapidly turning from violet to dark black, the horizon unimpeded for 270.Inside, there's activity in the kitchen; dinner will soon be served. I'm tired, and all the exertions of outside give way to my comfortable pillow. The AABL staff were friendly, enthusiastic, and welcoming. It made this stop very pleasant.

I was the most amazing 2 days. It Is far, but they make everything posible. The food is great. The Views are amazing. And everything is clean, everyone is so helpful, the only thing i would Say just because one always can find something is that they don't have many books in English. But then, who needs books with those Views.

What you see is what you get! We were very surprised and enjoyed our stay very much. You will also be quite surprised at what you get after a 2km dirt (bad) road! Beautiful - inside and outside. Lovely views. Quite and peaceful! Everything you need is there... Friendly staff and owners and fantastic food! Will recommend to all I know!

What a stunning place!Absolute spectacular view from the Protea Room and surroundings! The hosts are extremely friendly and helpfull! Our two day stay was way too short!Despite other reviewers, I could easily get in there with my low ground clearance car. Will definately return for a much longer stay!!!This is a place where one can really relax and bond with nature!!
