Battlefields Country Lodge in Dundee

Battlefields Country Lodge is situated in Dundee and lies in the heartbeat of the battlefields in KwaZulu Natal. Explore Boer, Brit and Zulu battle sites at Isandlwana, Rorke’s Drift, Blood River, Ncome & Talana museums.

The lodge is nestled in green valleys overlooking rolling hills, dams and the famous Talana hill which is the site of the first battle between the Boers and the British soldiers! Battlefields Country Lodge boasts with 50 accommodation units ranging from unique, Silo-styled units to luxury, self-catering suites set in beautiful lush gardens with swimming pool and overlooking dams, mountains, horses, game and stunning bird life. The lodge was established in 1998 by the Roos family, who still run the lodge, The old original cottage, which was used as a farm workshop, was renovated into 6 en-suite rooms and named Rosie’s Cottage after Rosie Rogers who lived in it for many years! Thereafter, two old grain silos next to the old milking shed were built up and made into 4 en-suite rooms with a stairway joining the top two rooms. Unfortunately, the walls of the milking shed were crumbling and the idea of turning it into a chapel and dormitory for school groups was dashed, so the iron roof was removed and used to build a gazebo which has since been used as a chapel for wedding ceremonies. The silo’s became sought after and 10 silo’s were built and made bigger than the original. These have been a wonderful experience for our tourists & a landmark for our lodge. The silos are extremely popular with our international guests.   Share and enjoy a quiet, relaxed sundowner in our fully licensed “Lapa Ukhamba” watering hole, a round bar built under thatch. A cosy fire in winter creates a wonderful, warm experience.

An excellent 3-course Country-style buffet is served in the 70-seater Warrior’s Arms dining room.  Experience a South African Braaivleis, Potjie, etc.

Fantastic location. Friendly people. Terrific venue. We liked it so much, we booked an extra night. The car wash was also a treat. The owners their shared their local knowledge and helped us to obtain information on our relatives from the area.

What a place. Peace and tranquillity there. Staff from reception, cleaner, laundry staff, security to car washers to gardner and Owner were excellent. My car was washed every day in the morning. Surely will go again there.

The location of the place is amazing. The restaurant is very nice and the buffet is always at its best. The room I was allocated to did not lock, therefore I got another room. The new rooms aircon was not working and it was very cold, no electric blanket or heaters. The water in the morning was not warm enough it was almost lukewarm and the water pressure is very low.

The room was comfortable, small kitchen in the D view suites, which is an added benefit. Got to reception to be told key was in the room. Curtains not closing completely. No chicken or lamb in the buffet. The rating of one is given because there was a cockroach that came out of the basket that houses the cutlery in each table...right as I was about to eat...very upsetting

What a wonderful treat! We were impressed by the beautiful surroundings, elegantly decorated rooms and the friendly staff. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and the food is to die for. Well definitely be back

This place is close to nature and very peaceful. It doesn't really have a holiday atmosphere, because of the small amount of visitors. It still is a nice place to relax. Management was missing at first but later they quickly fixed problems that we encountered at the camping site. All in all it wasn't too bad.
