Buccaneers Lodge and Backpackers in Chintsa

It has been said that Buccaneers is a bit like a village because of the way it is spread over eight hectares of wild coastal forest right next to the stunning Chintsa Beach. Many describe it as a place to come home to and a legend in its own time. For us it is home and for the past 12 years we have been sharing it with people just like you - travellers from all over the world.

We have created a wide range of accommodation and activities to suit many different needs. Buccaneers Lodge is a haven of tranquility and natural delights. Guests can enjoy quiet beach walks or canoe trips up the Chintsa River or reading a book in the secret bird hide on our own dam. Buccaneers has a lovely lively bar which has certainly seen some great revelry in its time. Our stunning tropical pool is a busy spot in the summer months when a gorgeous poolside café offers decidedly decadent refreshments including divine pizzas. Every day we have some sort of free activity so you can relax and meet the rest of the gang.

Meals are optional but hard to resist. A different dinner is available every night and we always offer a good vegetarian option. We offer famous candlelit dinner parties three times a week and hearty meals in the pub. Breakfasts are leisurely affairs taken in the View of Africa Room with its sweeping views of the Chintsa Bay.

Activities available include marvellous beach horse rides, an excellent surf school, divinely relaxing massages, Chintsa Beach and country bicycle rides, and weekly visits to Bulugha Farm School for a heart-warming Xhosa concert and a chance for you to contribute to our feeding scheme. Right on our doorstep, the Inkwenkwezi Big 5 Game Reserve offers excellent game drives and a unique opportunity to get up close to elephants.

The best most organised backpackers I have been to. You just come with your clothes and they literally take care of the rest. Super awesome friendly staff. We will definitely be back!

Best backpackers in South Africa. We rented one of the newer en-suite rooms with a garden view, that had a communal kitchen and lounge next door. We loved it. The room was crisp and clean, the location was astounding and the Cintsa beach stretches for kilometers and kilometers. Staff was a bit aloof to be quite frank but mostly friendly. Great breakfast spot we only discovered the morning we left, so look into that from the beginning!

Love the place. New units built and upkeep of entire area very good. Loved that we could get Emeraldvale craft beer here. Their card machine did not work and they said we could come back the next day to pay. Now where do you still get that kind of attitude? Full marks, guys.

The place is nice but they forced us (2 adults and 3 young children) to leave in a moments notice after we spent there one night as they double booked. Besides an empty apologize they didn't offer any proper compensation. I wont go back there.

"Relaxing"

Camped in tents. Equipped kitchen with gasstoves, cutlery, fridges and enclosed patio made cooking a breeze. Or you can opt for set menu dinners and breakfasts with a superb view. Enjoy a game of volleyball next to the pool, or relax in the bar or any of the lounges. Our favourite backpackers.

Staff gave us a discount on the double with sea view . Very clean and cozy room with great bathroom and small fridge. Kitchen only open until 8pm and the filter coffee for 20 ZAR were the only drawbacks. Bar has good choice of beers.

This place was much larger than I expected! The rooms were spacious and had bathrooms. The view from my dorm room was spectacular. There is a bar with a pool table and the nights get pretty lively. The hostel grounds are well manicured and there a path down to the beach. If you take a right on the beach and walk for 30min you'll find a beached whale. It'll be there for quite some time and even when it's.gone the bones will remain. Sign up for their dinners they're spectacular!
