Reviews for Edenbrook Country House
Good day, I wish to express my complaint, regarding the experience we had at Edenbrook Manor, Pletternberg Bay. We booked and paid for the property online for the 8th and 10th June 2021. The property appealed to us due to the use of the Jacuzzi and the fireplace. As this was a winter road trip for us from Cape Town. After being on the road, and Edenbrook Manor being our last destination, we were looking forward to the facilities and the outdoor tranquility of the house and room etc. We decided to pay up upfront for the 2 nights, through SafariNow for the suite, which had a private jacuzzi and fire place. We checked in the late afternoon, we were greeted by Bruce. He gave us detail regarding our room, and the property saying how COVID 19 has affected businesss up the garden route. He then mentioned, that they had retrench their kitchen staff, due to financial impact they had succumb. Furthermore, he continued to say we are his only booking since April 2021 and the only reservation for the month of June, up until the following month 2021. He included saying, that the owner had to drop its prices due to clients not booking at the property. The pool was half clean and green on arrival. Our hearts went out, as we are aware that the Garden route relys predominantly on tourist, wether its local/ international. We were then escorted to our suite room, the first thing we walked to was the jacuzzi, as we had been on the road for days and needed some time to relax. As we reached to feel for the water the jacuzzi was cold. This was after Bruce had said he had switched it on, early that morning. We got to the television and had been explained to make use of open view program, as DStv has just been to costly. At the time, we were a disappointed but thought, that perhaps it needed a bit more time to warm up, and that open view, was not what we expected for a 4 star accommodation, as Netflix is a much better option at R139pm or even Showmax at R99pm. We were quite hungry, left for early dinner hoping the jacuzzi will be nice and warm when we come back. Only to come back to a cold jacuzzi once again. We even left it on the entire night, I went as far to googling why its not warming up and Id like to think that theres maintenance issues. As the temperature dropped we felt a bit cold in the room and decided to switch on the gas fire place. The moment, I turned the igniter and it was not making a sound after turning the knob, I messaged Bruce to come have a look no success by him turning it on. His words to us were, I am not sure how this thing works, people usually only check in here in summertime. He then apologised for it not working, even forgot to turn the knob back to off. What if the gas were open and we went to bed. Since, booking in and out of hotels/ b&bs we compared the price we had paid for the suite and even after checking out the disappointment we felt was heavy upon us. There and then we decided to look for other accommodation, we were so sure of leaving after that we secured our booking and decided to check out in the morning and informed Bruce to not bother with making us breakfast the morning and to only refund us for the night we had not spent. As, we checked out he apologised sincerely and then offered another room or 2 nights stay in a different room out of their peak season. We insisted on the first impression last impression and was adamant to leave. We told him not to bother, we had an expectation from their business and that it had been regrettably sad to even think of returning again in future. Needless, to say we felt like our entire trip was spoiled, even more so, when Bruce said that they dont offer refunds. What annoyed me most was, Bruce and I went for a smoke, there were no ashtray outside on the balcony of the room. I would like to think its a compulsory/ common thing in a 4 star guest house. When, I waned to go out the door, it was permanently stuck due to poor maintenance. The room walls was half patched up with polly filler and a quick paint over it. The curtains, that were hung was from old age, the shower was outdated, and full of old water marks. There, had not even a re-chargerable light, which cost R275 on take-a lot, that accommodates the guest, when there is load shedding. The coffee machine had been awaiting our arrival it was not plugged in nor, was there a plug point anywhere close to it. Although some a little things, they all have added up. I took, the time had thought about it all. The concern here is not about the money. Its about the principal, that this business is/was advertising a room with its facility but not offering any of it. Which, to me is false advertisement. I had only asked for the refund back, for the night we had not spent, but after he said the owner does not have a refund policy. I will now take matters further, in terms of s16 of the CPA. I would like to request for a full refund, no vouchers will be accepted. If, I do not hear from you or their management in 1 day. I will go as far to appoint my attorney with regards to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soonest. Kindest regards, Claudette.0711 855267
Wow, this is an amazing place, friendly staff, I would go back there again anytime. Nature is your surroundings
My awesome experience with Edenbrook Court Manor started while I was still in Joburg. A telephonic and electronic correspondence with Marc, the GM, was warm, friendly and very informative. But even that couldn't have prepared me for the absolutely amazing service I was to receive from Marc and his team during my stay with them. I wanted for nothing. They went far and beyond the call of duty in ensuring that I enjoyed my stay with them. The amenities are bsolutely world class. Pure luxury. The food is also exquisite, with interesting, unique twists. You must try their spicy ostrich pasta and their Amara infused malva pudding!
What a gem!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From a warm welcome to lovely breakfast on the terrace and room service. Whats not to enjoy! Well definitely be back!
We were absolutely spoilt at Edenbrook. The fire place and spa bath in our room kept us warm and relaxed. The nearby Knysna elephant park and gift stores on the way provided entertainment and the breakfast at edenbrook was very generous. We will definitely be back again.
Wow. What a beautiful, neat and well maintained place. The staff very friendly and the manager Marc , 10 out of 10 for hospitalty. The breakfasts are absolutely tasty and well presented... I will recommend this over and over to everybody. Thank you so much. X
Beautiful and peaceful with excellent facilities and staff vey profesional. Highly recommended.
It was simply the best. We felt we were more in 5 hotel than a 5 country house. Marc, the General Manager is a great and friendly guy. Rooms are the best. Actually I'm at a loss for better words to describe my experience there. Edenbrook Country House, you deserve ...(more than 5 stars).
The host....the accommodation...the view....the setting...the property.....the staff....the hospitality
A marvelous place managed by a fantastic general manager. Marc is absolutely the most helpful, kind and precise person I've ever met. I strongly recommend this place.
Amazing rooms and incredible hosts ! One couldn't wish for anywhere better to stay !!
"A Wonderful Stay"
We stayed for two nights and enjoyed a very comfortable room with lots of extras: fresh fruit, natural toiletries, "raw" snacks. We had very good treatments at the Spa. The food was fabulous, the breakfasts were delicious and dinners were an absolute feast ! Our hosts were charming and we can highly recommend this establishment.
It was like home away from home, we had a great time out at Edenbrook Country House and highly recommend it to our friends and family when they are in Knysna :)
