Reviews for Ezemvelo Nature Reserve
Amazing reserve with some cool hiking routes, no shortage of game to see. Was a pleasure to visit.
We were pleasantly surprised by Ezemvelo nature reserve. We camped for 3 nights. The camping spots were clearly marked and spacious. Ample shade available. First come first serve basis for spots, which is nice. Ablutions basic and rustic, but clean and sufficient. We will be returning.
Great place for camping and hiking. My kids really loved the place. Will definitely be going back in the future.
We camped for one night at Ezemvelo. They have had some cheeky monkeys and understand that they can be a problem. We went for a cycle, so locked all our food in our car and cable tied our tent zips together. The monkeys tore a hole in the side of my tent and raided it, even though there was no food. I was told by reception that they do that, and they often raid bags even if there is no food inside. There's no safe way to leave your tent in the campsite
Close to Johannesburg and Pretoria, Ezemvelo offers a great weekend away. There are a few basic, but workable, accommodation options through chalets and camping. A typical highveld grassland reserve, with the contingent buck and bird life. You are free to walk, ride, or drive through the reserve - which is great.
Beautiful nature reserve, lots of animal sightings. I wanted to do their 4km hike, but it turned out to be a 8km. Afterwards took a drive. The roads are all dirt: since I'm in a 4x4 (Suzuki Jimny), they were a joy to drive on. Highlight was a visit to the Hiker's Huts at the northern part of the reserve. I will not post a picture of it; I will send you there in person.
Lovely nature reserve, lots of antelope. Good range of hiking and mountain biking routes. The camp site is well laid out although while clean the bathrooms do need a renovation.Definitely worth visiting, keep in mind the gravel road in is very rough.
Loved this place. There isn't a "best" camping spot because they are all good. The ablutions are wonderful, clean and have hot water. The hiking routes are magnificent and there is wild life everywhere. Please ensure you pack all food items away in coolers/ fridges/ cupboards because monkeys will tear the canvas of your caravan to get food. Empty all bin bags before you enjoy a game drive or a hike. The pool is beautiful and well maintained and there is a lot to do here.
Enjoying our stay here. Could do with a bit of an upgrade upper wooden deck needs new wood. Reception could have given us more information regards to emergency numbers trails to mountain bike. From what time we were not allowed to drive or were we couldn't. But otherwise the grounds pool and living area was very well kept. Hikers hut and family hut are set in a beautiful part of the farm but needs some TLC. Was lovely too see all tge animals
We camped here over a weekend. The ablutions are clean, the facilities are all working, campsite is very well spread out and there is plenty shade. Lovely game viewing, great place to mountain bike or fish. You must visit
Just a day visit, but a relaxing one. Plenty of animals to be seen. The main roads can be driven in a saloon car, but the smaller ones, don't even try without a high clearence vehicle. Hiking trails are a jewel and they are strongly recommended. Day visit picnic site can do with a maintenance plan.
It is lovely and green at this time of the year. Animals roam around the tents in the camp site and between the cottages and lapas. The quite is blissful. Good for meditating, birdwatching, fishing, long walks, and so much more. A nature lover's heaven.
Far enough from main roads for a quiet stay. Sufficient bathrooms although no plugs for the bath and basins were supplied. There's not really good cellphone coverage everywhere. You can hike or ride bicycle here, no music is allowed. Just take care to put away things you don't want the monkeys to get hold of!
Our camping weekend was good, but the ablutions could been better due to more often cleaning. We arrived the Wednesday. Ablutions were cleaned the Saturday only. We enjoyed our hiking very much, nature at it best!
My husband and I loved the walking trails and look forward to using the cycling trails next time. It was lovely to see all the game and to be able to walk so close to them. The bathrooms ,of the camping sight, however need some attention. It would also be good if they replace their dirtbins with monkey-proof dirtbins. We loved the open spaces of the nature reserve.
