Although we were received in a friendly and hospitable manner by all staff. Our stay was certainly not a pleasant experience. Poor quality maintenance evident. Food was average, food items often ran out & took a while to replenish. Room 12: Our shower was totally blocked, an unsuccessful attempt was made by maintenance. The shower was also dirty with greasy soap residues on the shower floor and sides with the slate tile sealant pealing off all over. The rooms are NOT AT ALL sound proof to your neighbour. There was a safe but not accessible. We were told afterwards that we had to request the keys for the safe for which there was no notice at reception or in the room to inform us, no info packs in the room, or safety/emergency exit plans. The WORST was that of their room lock system. The keys are that of a standard lock which has the key number on it. If you did not know, with this number any person can purchase a copy from the key department at the hardware shops. This we noticed after we fell victim to theft from our room with us being there not even 24hrs yet. This was before house keeping had even been near any rooms for cleaning. We are still waiting for senior management to contact us. We have taken steps and opened a case with their local police on the premises. Be warned and aware !!

What a brilliant idea, a museum and hotel in one. Our two day stay was wonderful, I felt transported back to South Africa in Edwardian times but with the comfort of the 21st century.

Rich in history and heritage. Charming staff. Well managed, maintained and really clean. The food is absolutely delicious and the portions are very generous. They have a wonderful game drive that I really enjoyed and then visited the museum. The guide was super knowledgeable. Very impressed

Good place with a lot of colonialism heritage for the southern African whites ( British, Hollander, etc). Pity they didn't include Africans. It would have been superb.

"A short escape from the urban life"

I booked this hotel for the 3rd time. And every next time the impression became worse and worse.1. The assigned room no 11 appeared to be with a broken door, which stuck in it's frame when closed. It was impossible to open it from inside without somebody being strong enough assisting you from outside. What do you think about fire safety? We were offered another room, but in two hours other guests cried from the window of room 11 asking somebody to help them to open the door. It is an IRRESPONCIBLE behaviour of hotel staff.2. The bedsheet in our new room 12 appeared to be very tired, with unwashable spots and torn in several places. Some of the pillow-cases were almost grey of their age. The wall near the left side-bed was spotted with something looking extremely unattractive.3. At the buffet dinner at the arrival day we ate something, what caused for ALL OF US (4 people, in two rooms) heavy stomach upset or even worse, what lasted 3 next days. Later we could suggext that the kudu meat was spoiled, but still served for guests' dinner. It was AWFUL!!!4. It is less important on the previous background, but still... We were two couples and we booked two rooms for the same price. We got one spacious room with AC, outdoor shower, and another one was much smaller, with no AC, no outdoor shower, with cupboard in the bathroom. Do you think that these two absolutely different rooms should cost the same price? STRANGE. And 5. Disregards the quality of the hotel service visibly went down during the last year, the price went up. You may think that it is OK, if your target client is a one-night foreigner. But it is in all cases a sign of your disrespect to the clients.Very sad impression...
