Montagu Springs in Montagu

Montagu Springs is an affordable self-catering resort located just two hours away from Cape Town, in the heart of the famous Route 62. This scenic alternative to the N2 highway is also the longest wine route in the Western Cape, producing outstanding wines from the harmoniously balanced terrain and mild climate. Montagu, home of the famous Muscadel, is close to both the Robertson Wine Valley and Breede River Valley and is long known for its hot springs and, more recently, for eco, wellness and adventure sports.

Each chalet features a private barbecue area, with larger barbecue drums on wheels available on request for larger numbers. The fully furnished self-catering chalets all have fully equipped kitchens, private barbecue facilities, and heating and cooling air-conditioning throughout. The open-plan living and dining areas are comfortably furnished and spotlessly clean. The chalets vary in price, starting from the great value Small Plettenbergs to the luxuriously private Villas.

Pedal cars, imported from Italy, are great fun for the entire family and are available for hire, along with a variety of bicycles and mountain bikes. Three tennis courts can be enjoyed during the day and in the evening with floodlights, and guests also have access to various hot, cold and kiddies pools. Golden Terrace guests have exclusive use of a private pool and Villa guests have exclusive use of the Villa pool located on the Villa Terrace set against the mountainside. Add the various award-winning hot and cold pools and daily bird-feeding, and Montagu Springs is the perfect resort destination for the entire family.

My experience at Golden Terraces was wonderful...Perfect when you prefer privacy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again. I would like the decision maker at Montague Springs to try and re-negotiate the daily rate costing for using the Hot Springs at Avalon Springs.

As we travel with 2 young children we look for accommodation that's kid friendly and offers activities that they will enjoy. I, especially enjoyed swinging on the benches near the park while my kids tried to spot the birds. There used to be more birds before though but it's still great :)

This is a nice getaway. They have day visitors so the warm water pool is always too full. That is the only down fall.

Lovely hot pool - very warm. Chalets are very basic prefabs ... Feels a bit like a trailer. Hot springs themselves very crowded, even for a weekday out of season. I would definitely avoid on a weekend! Lovely area tho great fit kids

An enjoyable experience. The private jacuzzis are a bonus if you prefer to relax in the privacy and comfort of your own hot tub. Maintenance of the mountain chalets have unfortunately been neglected as furniture, equipment and appliances are worn and in some cases, not replaced.

After coming to Montagu Springs a number of times it is very disappointing to see that very little or nothing has been done to upgrade the golden terraces. Regrettably the terraces are nothing golden. I was meant to have a unit with an upgraded bathroom. But i struggle to see what is meant by upgrade. The shower door doesn't even open with ease, neither does it close properly. This ultimately results in the water all leaking outside the shower. This is could be very dangerous if caution is not exercised and one could easily slip. Not to mention entrance door to the bathroom. All i can say is that the door looks like it should have been changed 10 years ago. It will take some serious convincing for me to be persuaded to return again. In general, the entire chalet needs an upgrade, including the grubby carpets in the rooms.

Hi lovely facilities. Some of the staff can put a damper on the stay as they lack training or understanding being in the service industry. They need to understand clients and service industry. You pay a fair amount for the facilities, so you want the service to go with it. Thanks

We went as day visitors and had loads of fun. The pool areas were clean enough and if you arrive early, there are nice spots to choose from to set up for the day. Unfortunately as it gets full, it does become a little unpleasant as the staff don't enforce the rules that apply around the pool areas. The kids tend to get a little rough and don't care for the people around them. If the staff had their hands on top of things, this really wouldn't be an issue

"Worn out"

We stayed 4 night in a Josmont Heights unit, which aren't the nicest ones. Our unit was worn out and dirty. The heated pool is too small for all the guests. The pool area of the hotel is bigger but crowded with day visitors. Except the nice play ground it was a bit of a disappointment for us. It is cheap though.

"Great for family budget"

Montagu Springs is a lovely place to take the family. It felt like a safe place away from home. My children loved the freedom they had to ride bikes and play on the grounds. I appreciated the break and fresh air for all.The staff was very warm, friendly and helpful. Everyone really did their best to make our stay enjoyable. The grounds are well kept.A huge highlight for me was the warmest pool in all of South Africa. Absolutely worth the extra rand for the daily fee. It was relaxing even in the evening. Just be mindful that the large and small Plattenberg structures will remind you of a trailer park. Inside the flats, everything is clean and inviting. We especially loved having our own braai. I must say that you can't judge a book by its cover because Montagu Springs gave me the most relaxing two days a mom could ask for.
