Reviews for Oewerzicht Tented River Lodge & Farm Cottages
Very nice campsite. Amazing that you find places without cellphone service still. It felt like a real getaway. We went camping and loved being so close to the river. My only complaint was the bathrooms. The men's side had a issue with drainage causing the floor to have puddles of shower water almost the whole weekend. During peak season the bathrooms will be pretty crowded to.
Very neat, the tents are well kitted and comfortable. The communal bathrooms are clean and the men's showers are outside showers.
Location was great. The farm look well maintained. Enjoyed the draw bridge just standing on it and looking at the birds. The reason for the 3 stars and not 5 is two reasons. The first one is the fact that the Safari tents was supposed to be on their own but the public just walk through our area even though there is a sign saying private tent guests only. The second reason is the pump room. I understand it is a working farm but the pump room ran 24/7 so it was very noisy and struggled to sleep.
Great place, stayed in the blue crane cottage. Nice, clean, heaters with jet master braai indoors. Fire place outdoors. Privacy from this specific cottage was amazing. River babbling just 20m from you... Would definitely recommend it. Also had large social areas, and larger houses. Very pleased
Do you want to break away to tranquility? Oewerzicht is well kept and give the ideal breakaway for those that are active. The wedding venue is fantastic for smaller groups.
We really enjoyed our time at Oewerzicht and stayed in 1 of the Farm Cottages. Everything was neat and well equipped in the cottages. We loved the peacefullness and the view of the mountains are beautiful. The kids loved the farm atmosphere and it was great that we could bring our dog too. Greyton one of our favorite Overberg villages is only 9km away. Every Saturday morning they have a village market day where you can buy local and organic home-grown produce.
A lovely get away for the family. The hot tub on the cottage deck was the absolute best!Uitsig Cottages are a bit smaller than we thought and the fireplace is in the kitchen not the lounge and thats the only reason I give it four stars and not five.
Managers are helpful over weekends just give them a call for any problems you have
We stayed in the glamping safari tents with bathrooms attached - we had 4 of the five tents for our gangly group of 4 adults, 2 teenagers, 2 under 5s and one large dog. It was amazing - the kids loved the suspension bridge, attempted to catch fish in the river and loved the open air wood fired hot tub - actually that was a hit with everyone. In the tent in one king size bed, excellent linen, a chest of drawers, fridge and kettle. The bathroom is built next to the tent (through the zip into the bathroom) and is enclosed but roofless. So privacy AND stars! Each tent has a braai area and a porch overlooking the river. There is a communal kitchen that services the 5 tents in case of inclement weather and has an indoor braai as well as a normal stove, freezer and fridge. The tents are separated from the usual campsite so it is quieter with less likelihood of noisier more boisterous campers. It is a dog friendly farm so expect some barking. There is no cellphone signal until about 5km before Greyton - maybe warn your teenager or maybe dont. Pack a two point plug to charge your devices, a bottle opener and a can opener - Im assuming the kitchen had them in disguise somewhere as we couldnt find them - that however is the nature of camping and made it all the more fun to figure out. Reception gave us freshly picked apples on arrival and they were delicious - this is obviously season dependent. I made the best memories with friends and family and I will definitely be back!
Great campsite, on the river with good facilities. If visiting in summer be sure to bring an extra shade net as there is not that much shade. Wood fired hot tubs for hire on request.
Beautiful place. Enjoyed swimming in the river. The toilets could be kept little bit more cleaner and shop could be open at more convenient times.
Nice campsite but too little shade. Ablutions always clean, i think the spaza shop should open twice a day.
Beautiful camping. All campsites are grass. Refreshing to swim in river as water is not as cold as you normally experience when swimming in rivers elsewhere. Control measures needs improving as no one checks amount of people coming in to the campsites. We had a lovely time up until a group of people with 6 vehicles took over 2campsites. They got visitors the Saturday and had 8vehicles on their site as well as parked around the ablution facilities. They were noisy, loud music and inconsiderate of their fellow campers. Their dogs were running all over and constantly barking at other people. My family really enjoyed the camping at Oewerzicht up until those campers arrived.
We had a lovely weekend at Oewrezicht. The tranquility blew us away, the call of the 'Piet my vrou' , the 'Hoep-hoep' and other birds in the mornings when you wake up was just amazing. If you want to recharge your batteries there is no better place to go. We will definately be back and next time we will bring friends along to share in the magic of Oewerzicht.
