Reviews for The King Edward Hotel
The worst experience and service we have ever had in our lives. We tried to book in at the hotel only to be told the rooms were not ready - this was at 13:30 in the afternoon. We were then given a room key to put our luggage in and were told upon our return to the hotel later that evening that the rooms will be ready and keys will be at Reception. Upon our return to the hotel we were told that we could not stay there as there were no rooms available - we had booked and paid for the rooms a month in advance! After much arguing we had no choice but to drive back home to East London (300km away from Port Elizabeth) at 01:30am. We were told that our money would be refunded but 4 days later still nothing! Staff are unresponsive and Management is incompetent and unwilling to assist. Do not EVER make a booking at the King Edward Hotel in Port Elizabeth, you will be highly disappointed - GUARANTEED!
Can you rate a hotel No Stars. Our stay was beyond terrible. If it wasn't such a serious case of ruining an entire groups 3 months ahead planned outing then it could have made a great comedy show! To arrive to no rooms, rooms that were occupied by other guests, I kid you not our allocated keys opened 3 separate rooms already occupied by other guests! Rooms with no locks!!!! televisions that had nothing on, except snow blizzards! Rooms with no bedding, no towels, no amenities, no toilet paper, no kettle but coffee station, coffee station no kettle. Having paid over 2 months ago we were still questioned about payment. Clueless reception staff left alone with no manager. An empty room for a bar! An empty room for a room! To be told thee manager resigned is the reason the rooms were not ready. While we were trying to sort our stay out other guests were being told there were no rooms for them. Keys were lying on the ground behind reception and the receptionists scrabbled frantically to find the relevant keys. Dirty beyond belief! Breakfast was still being set up at 8:00 am when we let to find our own food. The promised breakfast would contain no bacon, the staff don't know why? The breakfast room was beyond dirty! Wouldn't eat there if you paid me. I have no idea how they are even allowed to sell food, I believe the health authorities and compliance officer would close them down based on their hygiene practice alone. Even though there were a Que of guests who had asked to see the manager, or at least a member of the management the next morning, only Mr Clueless the receptionist was there. no member of management was available again. Terrible service, terrible PR and I hope that they realise how much damage this can do to tourism in the metro and the region!!!!
What you see on the internet is different when you get there I won't advice anyone to go to this hotel for a good holiday...the room I booked had no TV, no wi-fi in the rooms...I had requested an invoice but I was told it will be emailed but they never did....
Do not fall for the trap. I repeat do not fall for the trap. What you see on the internet doesn't necessarily reflect what you get when you arrive there. The staff try their best to be friendly but the fact that they don't have uniform makes it hard for a guest to distinguish between hotel guests and employees. I booked a standard room with a very uninteresting view of a wall with windows but the only good thing about this hotel is the comfortable bed , spacious room and shower. The television was only playing SABC1 with no sound, there's no phone in the room so that you can contact the reception , the carpets are stained, no nightfrill in the bed(not that it matters anyway ), the room is cold with a hard-to-operate A/C, and if you wanna make yourself some tea/coffee then I suggest you bring your own coz you'll get 2 sachets of Ricoffy waiting for you...oh by the way the kettle doesn't boil water, the cups are not clean. No artwork in the room despite the rich history the hotel has, the lift doesn't work so that means you have to take the stairs and entertain yourself by counting the number of broken windows. Breakfast? It was a joke.
fantastic helpful hotel ... comfortable stay ..breakfast was delicious .. service was quick ... they even left us park out bike inside
Food was not tasty rather hard no salt or spice on the meat prepared not even on the tables it seemed as the food was prepared in a hast. Pudding served with cold custard and the waiter walked over the floor where everyone coukd see. Waiters should use other entrence whn functions is on nt across the floor while speeces is on.
Terrible service. Got here and the receptionist couldnt even help us to get our reservations. Manager wasnt even present.
Is wasnt a nice place to stay at, breakfasts werent up to standard, drains were blocked, coffee and tea werent replaced daily.
Place of joy& memories.famaly&friends.perfect view to the sea.walking distance to public transport.lastlyin safe environment, security 24/7
It was dirty with horrible food and wouldnt recommend anyone going there. Im from joburg and have been to PE hundreds of times and many amazing hotels and this was a horrible experience. This place was probably gorgeous but this is not the case now.
Arrived with an hour wait for our room because the booking was mixed up on their system, got upgraded... but still not worth what you pay. Got to the room with no chairs for the balcony, no phone to phone the front desk (have to phone with your cellphone), no menu to order in... Just a room with 2 double beds and a couch or two.. oh and a kettle. Not the best start to our honeymoon.
The archetectural style of the buildibg is breathtaking. It needs much, much love and rands. We dis not stay or eat a meal here. The coffee was underwhelming.
A hotel with a history. Started as a mansion 1867. Converted into a hotel 1903. Old but nice. See Google information. Friendly staff. Clean rooms and bedding. Parking a bit worrying as vehicles are parked in the open road in front of the hotel. However, security patrol 24-7 with partol vehicle parked with private vehicles.
