The Mitford Hotel in Morgan Bay

Situated in a dramatic seafront setting, The Mitford offers unparalleled views onto the waves, rocks and cliffs. With 14 unique units ranging in size from small to large, up to eight people can be accommodated comfortably.

The self-catering units each have a kitchenette equipped with a fridge, a stove, a toaster, a kettle and cooking/eating utensils. The large deck in front of the dining room is a favourite place for dolphin watching, and the perfect place to sip a sundowner at the end of the day.

Braai facilities are conveniently located around the premises and there is a pool table adjacent to the bar. There are no radios or telephones in the flats - with the natural attractions on your doorstep, they are considered superfluous - however, there are several TVs in the communal areas. A basic cleaning service is provided and a laundrette is available for full service.

Good fishing, safe sea bathing, surfing, both gentle and invigorating walks, and birdwatching are all within easy walking distance. Tennis, squash, bowls and golf activities are available at nearby Kei Mouth, which also has an aircraft landing strip. The nearby Double Mouth Nature Reserve is an attraction for shell collectors, who sometimes also find semi-precious Carnelian beads and shards of Ming china which are still washed ashore from early shipwrecks.

Morgan’s Bay has the unspoilt beauty and seclusion of the Wild Coast, and is renowned for its pristine white beaches and dunes. The topography is delightfully varied with a large, tranquil tidal lagoon, expansive beaches, rugged rocks and magnificent sea cliffs.

Awesome hotel in Morgan's Bay. The kitchen took quite a while to get our food out, but it was a very pleasant experience.

The Mitford Hotel is decidedly not the newest kid on the block when it comes to the hotels in Morgan Bay, but it more than makes up for that in terms of what a good country hotel should be. The service is excellent, friendly and attentive without being effusive, the food delicious, the rooms large and spotlessly clean, and all of this with wonderful views of the Bay,Working on compiling material for our next book on the Wild Coast, I had heard about the cliffs of Morgan Bay, and how spectacular they were when storm surf pounded them, throwing spray and foam some 50 odd meters into the air, so went looking to photograph this happening, and quite by chance stumbled across the Mitford Hotel. Situated right at the end of the bay, the hotel offers the best views of these cliffs and is an ideal place to base yourself whilst photographing these cliffs and waves, and if you want to get close up views, just stroll across the road and its all there. Pounding waves, sheer cliffs, jagged rocks gleaming in the sunrise and sunset. Apart from the coastal scenery, Morgan Bay provides for numerous other activities for those not photographically orientated, these including but not limited to the mile-long beach which fronts the bay, hiking and mountain bike trails, fishing spots, horse riding, rock climbing and abseiling. You can visit a nearby game reserve, play golf on a superb course, visit the site of a 16th century Portuguese shipwreck and hunt for Ming dynasty porcelain, Money Cowries and Carnelian Beads, or else take part in a tour of the local township. On enquiring about these I found the staff to be most helpful in directing me and helping me to make contact with the various tour operators.

Lovely area of East London. Like the quietness and sea views. The owner of the suite could have left a manual to operate the oven and BB grill. Would like to visit this place again. The hotel even though not connected were helpful.

Great place to get away from the big city madness. Amazing view. Friendly staff. And some great experiences within walking and driving distance of the hotel. Highly recommended for those seeking a little tranquility and disconnect from a busy life.

Last night the starter mushrooms were burnt and my steak order for being medium was well done and the soft eggs ordered were both very hard. So disappointing. A month ago my daughter ordered savoury rice and git plain white rice.

Spacious with a view to die for... restaurant has an awesome selection of fine dishes... be prepared to wait your food though as everything is prepared from scratch!

"Beautiful place"

My husband and I had a very relaxing stay at Mitford Lodge. Our double room was comfortable and had a wonderful sea view. It was very quiet which we didn't mind. We had breakfast on the deck overlooking the sea and saw dolphins, what a treat. We will definitely return.

"Stunning views"

The lodge is ideally situated next to the ocean providing all guests with stunning views. The rooms are also in good condition and practical. The only complaint was that the lodge was run on skeleton staff, so the restaurant was not always open and service was slow.
