Reviews for The Old Hatchery
Service and food was very good.
It's the best place to go get a warm meal when you're in Underberg. Especially if you've had a long drive into the area. Lovely views from your table. Friendly staff. We always make a stop there.
Cosy setting, friendly and efficient staff. Their trout dish is recommended as is the Lamb shank , they had no more Eisbein
Could be better. Very disappointing. Made reservations which wasn't the problem. Service was slow. Waiters couldn't really answer much of the questions. Really could be better. Such a waste of good property.
Very nice food service was good as well it was not very busy on the day we went there nice people who work there
Love the place, the food was great, was there for the new menu launch and have been back since, there service is also outstanding
Meat was dry, but the sauce was tasty. Room was warm but smokey. Few people, still it was loud. Could be a nice place, but I experienced it as mediocre.
Beautiful surrounding but the food was too expensive for the quality presented. My fiance had the oxtail which consisted mostly of bone and very little meat. I had the falafel pita which was dry (no sauce) and completely tasteless. It was evident that none of the ingredients that were used were fresh (definitely precooked or frozen)as our meals arrived within 15mins of placing the order. A place with phenomenal potential, friendly staff...but bad food at a high price.
The accommodation we had was a big bedroom in what seems to be a very big farm house. The room was clean and spacious compared to other accommodation we had on our holiday butu can see it's a bit old. The restaurant was nice but our breakfast took quite a while because they had a group of 16 before us that was quite demanding. We had to go to the farm nextdoor for horse riding as there was no activities available at The Old Hatchery. There was no swimming pool but they do have a dam you can swim in.
Just a quick visit to the Old Hatchery. Accommodation looks comfortable, up to date and well serviced. I will definitely book a fisherman's cottage for my wife and I on our next weekend visit to Underberg.
The Fillet was excellent, the vegetables mediocre. The Oxtail was delicious. Menu ripped, plastic table cloths, furniture miss matching. The noise from the kitchen of staff, cooking and washing is annoying. The restaurant has a beautiful setting along a river with waterfall, it would be nice to be able to sit outside to enjoy that.
Lovely roomsNice and bigSure it would be lovely and warm in WinterAwesome food served at the restaurant. Friendly waiters andcstaffPity we missed the snoe by a few days
We loved our stay here. Nice little cottage, food ok. Beautiful access to the cycling / running trails along the river.
Recently under new management. Went for dinner a couple of times and both times exceeded expectations. The rustic environment set amongst lots of lush foliage and wooden walkways creates a charming and welcoming atmosphere that is complemented by the thatch and sound of trickling water. The menu while fairly basic offers something that will suit most appetites. I particularly enjoyed the lamb shank and pasta. (Obviously not on the same evening. ) The service was good and the geniune friendliness of the staff made for a suitably relaxing and comfortable experience that makes one want to come back.
Looks can be deceiving!
"What a relaxing time."
Beautiful views and delicious, affordable food. Thank you for a wonderful time.
